Reset and Recharge

Reset and Recharge

I spent last weekend with my husband and some friends, camping, shopping, eating and laughing.

It's easy to forget how important it is to have some downtime, especially when the demands of everyday responsibilities and obligations take over your daily life.

It can start to feel like you're living your life on auto pilot.

You know you're at that point when every day is just ticking off tasks that need to get done.

  1. kids to school or sports
  2. laundry
  3. run to grocery store
  4. Doctor's appointment
  5. return library book
  6. start dinner

You get to the end of your day and you may have accomplished all of your tasks but you don't feel present in your life.

The joy is gone.

Of course, we have to take care of the things that need to happen during the day. It's important that we are focused and productive.

As humans it's also important that we feel connected.

Feeling connected to the people in our lives is what makes us human. We want and need to feel love, connection and joy.

However, if you don't intentionally carve out time and make the effort to stay connected it can go overlooked. Everyone's life is busy but if you don't take time for yourself, to reconnect to the people and things you love most, it can turn into burnout.

burnout looks a lot like,

  • cranky/ grumpy
  • A short fuse with loved ones
  • Feeling fatigue or lack of energy
  • Just living day to day, not for the future.

Intentionally take time to reset.

This can look many different ways. It can be as simple as...

  • Going for a walk or reading outside. Fresh air and sunshine can do wonders for your mood.
  • More time with your friends can be a great pick me up. Call that person you've been meaning to call.
  • Start a regular event like a book club or once a month lunch with your girlfriends.
  • Go out on a date with your spouse or significant other.

The possibilities are endless. My weekend with my husband camping was just what we needed. We didn't go too far or do anything fancy but it was perfect to get away and unwind.

My husband is a bit of a workaholic and getting him to commit to taking even a long weekend is sometimes hard but once we are there, he is so happy and relaxed. It was a much-needed break.

I talk a lot about taking care of your body but taking care of your mind is just as important.

When we are in a better place with our physical and emotional health we feel better in our day-to-day lives. We have more to give to the people around us and we look forward to the future.

I work with my clients to make intentional choices every day. Choosing how you spend your time, what foods you want to eat, where you put your attention and energy is so powerful.

TIP: Need a quick pick me up?

Step outside, barefoot if possible, and raise your face to the sun. Take a few deep slow breaths and think about one thing you are grateful for.

TRACY DOYLE WELLNESS School is in session. It's that bittersweet time of year again. At least that's how I always felt. Summer is winding down, kids are bord, you're ready to get back into a routine. I thought this would be a good time to talk about kids and nutrition. We know that food and things like sleep and stress affect very young children. We understand that a toddler with too much sugar and not enough sleep will be cranky and prone to fits. We easily recognize it and adjust for it....

Calling all moms Are you feeling burned out? I remember when the kids were all so busy and every day felt like a whirlwind of just trying to keep up, like you are being pulled in all different directions at once. Can you relate to feeling like that? Getting through the day was just ticking off all the boxes on the list. I would feel satisfied if I got through the list, but yet I felt so empty. I remember feeling like I was just there to facilitate everyone else's needs. Getting kids to and...
