What is holding you back?
If you are like me, you have an endless list of things you want to do. Of course, there are always projects around the home that you are intending to get to, but also projects that are just for you.
I have my list too, rooms to paint, seeds to plant, pictures to sort through but also, I have some goals that are more personal. I currently want to lose that 5-10lbs that I seem to have put on during the holidays. I want to get more strength training in, not to be buff, just to keep my bones strong. I want to take more herbal classes because I just love working with herbs and learning all that they can do for us.
What is standing in my way? Well, I think it's mostly me.
Making that commitment of time and money can hold many people back from moving forward. Most of the time It's not really even about the amount of money. Its more about, the best use of the money. And when you frame it like that there will almost always be other things that take priority.
Most of us have some extra money to spend and extra time if we are really being honest with ourselves.
It's when we start to justify our choices that we fall short.
- The kids wants are more important than mine.
- The immediate gratification of a new pair of shoes vs long-term health goals.
- If I invest in photo albums and start the project of sorting pictures, will I complete it?
Are you trying to justify putting your health top priority?
Are you waiting to find just the right program? You know, the one that is at the right time of the day, at the right price. The one that you can get behind and you're sure your family and friends will think it was a good choice.
Let me let you in on a secret... It doesn't exist. Not because it's a bad choice, but because your brain would rather have you make no choice at all than make a choice that you may get criticized for.
You know that friend that will proudly announce that the program she did was so much better and you should have done that. Or not wanting to hear the groans of disappointment when you have to skip dinner with the family to go to your workout class. Or when your well-meaning mom says, I can't believe you spent money on health coaching.
Someone will always criticize your decision. Don't let one of those people be you. There will always be people holding you back, even if it's well intentioned. And here is another secret, sometimes it's just in your head. You imagine the worst but in reality, those same people will be cheering you on and so proud of you when see it through.
YOU ARE WORTH IT!
Investing in yourself is one of the best things you can do.
As human beings we need to keep challenging ourselves. We need to continue to improve ourselves and stretch our bodies and our minds.
So let them criticize. Let them roll their eyes. Let them do without you for dinner.
You have to have your own back
If you are at a crossroads or struggling to make a decision, I would suggest you write yourself a letter from yourself five years in the future to yourself today. What would your future self say about that decision? Did it help you get to the future that you want to have?
This is actually an exercise that I do in my program. Having your own back so you can get to the future that you want is so important.
Admitting that we often can't get there on our own doesn't make us weak. We often need help and guidance especially when we are stepping outside our comfort zone. If you want to be a better cook, you may take a cooking class. If you want to learn more, you go to school. If you want to get into shape maybe you hire a trainer. And if you want to improve your health you can hire a health coach to help you reach your goals.
Anytime you go outside of your personal skill set, the fastest way to success is to seek out help and guidance.
I think this is even more important when you are looking at long term goals. Having someone to guide you and help you stay on track can be a huge benefit.
You don't have to do it all by yourself.
I have made changes to my packages that I am offering this year.
